The Fiber Optic accelerometer (FOA) is a passiv opto-mechanical acceleration sensor. The sensing device is a micromechanical Silicon mirror (MEMS) which deflects a light beam proportional to the acceleration. The Fiber Optic accelerometer can be placed in harsh environments and it is separated from the measurement electronics by optical fibers.
Working principles of the MEMS Fiber optic accelerometer
Sercalo's MEMS fiber optic accelerometer (FOA) is composed of an optical system where light coming from the input fiber is collimated on a seismic mirror. The mirror of the MEMS fiber optic accelerometer reflects the light into the output fiber with optical power proportional to the acceleration. The MEMS fiber optic accelerometer detects directional acceleration by applying DC offsets on the output.
