MEMS are used in telecommunication networks along different places in the transmission line. Their applications are as wide as tunable lasers, tunable filters, optical switches, dynamic gain equalizers, attenuators as it is shown in the following image.Sercalo's products are highly reliable due to the combination of the MEMS technology and a mature design. Other than in conventional mechanical devices, Sercalo's products use beam deformation rather than sliding hinges, so that when the components are actuated the mechanical parts are not touching each other, so there is no sticking, no friction, no wear out, nor fatigue. This is why a switch can operate billions of cycles maintaining always the same output results (for example, constant insertion loss).
In addition, Sercalo's fiber optic components are qualified according to the Telcordia 1221 standard, where the components are tested under extreme environmental stress. (mechanical shocks, vibration, high number of thermal cycles, damp heat etc.)
