Sercalo uses the latest silicon micro-machining techniques to fabricate precision MEMS Collimators.
The MEMS Collimator is a structure composed by a passive fiber optic array (alignment structure), pig-tails and a micro-lens array. MEMS technology is used to fabricate the alignment structure where fibers are aligned with a position error below 2μm.
The light that is transmitted over the fiber is focused by the micro-lens array that is located on top of them and then delivered to the next optical component.
They are mainly used in applications in Optical Data Transmission and Telecommunications environments like:
- Wavelength Selective Switching
- ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer)
- Coupling fiber to optical components
- Organization of fibers + focusing light in dense data transmission environments.
- Parallel fiber optic connectors
